HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE BIRDS EYE VIEW ENGINE ROOM!
As 2021 draws to a close, and we are getting ready to ‘shut up shop’ for the holidays, the team here at Birds Eye View would like
to say a big THANK YOU to all our friends, funders, followers, allies, and filmmakers for sustaining us with your continued faith,
and for all your amazing films!
Given that stories help us understand ourselves and others, how would we have survived these
strange, unsettling times without them – the emotions they stir, the conversations they create, and the impact they make?
Thank you for the risks you take, and the hours you slog in order to enrich our lives. Thank you for helping us understand our
own stories.
This is also an opportunity to say how lucky we are to have Melanie Iredale, our new Director (formally, Deputy Director of Sheffield
DocFest for seven years) on board – bringing a fresh energy, a new perspective and unique qualities to the role. We are excited
about what 2022 will bring under her leadership and guidance – given that she has hit the ground running with
Rebel Dykes, The Lost Daughter, Petite Maman and Hope! We are lucky to have her.
It would be remiss of us not to acknowledge and say a huge thank you to Mia Bays, our former “Director-At-Large”
(now Director of BFI Film Fund), on our first festive season without her. Mia did a stunning job turning Birds Eye View from
a year round film festival for film by women, to what it is you see today. Thank you.
It seems fitting that we end with a quote from another brilliant woman – the late, great, bell hooks.

“To truly be free, we must choose beyond simply surviving adversity,
we must dare to create lives of sustained optimal wellbeing and joy.”
